The Unit is associated with three leading research institutions in Spain: the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), the Network Center for Biomedical Research of Respiratory Diseases (CIBERES), the Institute of Biomedical Research August Pi Sunyer (IDIBAPS). The research of the Unit is focused on respiratory bioengineering with a multiscale approach ranging from cell to organ.
The PhD research project is will study the mechanical properties of lung cells and extracellular matrix and the cell-matrix mechanical interplay to better understand the biophysical mechanisms involved in the hypoxic/hypercapnic microenvironment of lung cells in main respiratory diseases.
The candidate will work in a recently approved project of Plan Nacional I+D+I using advanced biophysical techniques including: a) Atomic Force Microscopy, Traction Microscopy and Cell Tracking for assessing micro- and nano-mechanics; b) fluorescence and multiphoton microscopy; c) design and implementation of microfluidic chips; and d) biocompatible scaffolds fabricated with 3D-bioprinting or obtained by tissue decellularization.
This is a 3-year predoc position ready for start. We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a strong interest in multidisciplinary translational research by using cutting-edge biophysical tools to investigate clinically focused on respiratory pathology. He/she is expected to have a recent Master in physics, engineering of related topics (or to obtain the Master degree by July 2018).
Candidates should send by end February an e-mail with an application letter, CV and two letters of reference to:
